Most digital work breaks at the seams — the hand-offs. Designer throws a file to a developer. Developer throws a build to QA. Someone writes docs months later from memory. Every seam is where detail leaks out.
stillidea is small on purpose, so there are almost no seams.
Two people, one conversation
I handle design and build. Naima, my design partner, shapes the visual direction with me. We’re not a relay race — we’re a conversation. A decision made in design doesn’t get “translated” into code by a stranger; it gets built by the person who was in the room. Nothing gets lost because nothing gets handed off.
That’s the quiet advantage of staying small. A big agency has more capacity and more seams. We have fewer of both — and for craft work, fewer seams wins.
The whole lifecycle, owned
End-to-end means I’m responsible for the thing from the first sketch to the support ticket two years later:
- Design — the point of view, the system, the type
- Build — hand-written, fast, accessible front-ends
- Document — written while it’s fresh, by the person who built it
- Support — answered by the person who knows exactly why that line of code is there
No “let me check with the developer.” I am the developer. And the designer. That accountability is the product.
Why it scales differently
People assume small means limited. In practice it means consistent. Every stillidea product carries the same fingerprints because the same hands made all of it. A studio buying a template, or a client commissioning custom work, gets one coherent point of view — not a committee’s average.
We won’t ever be the biggest. That was never the goal. The goal is that when something carries the stillidea full stop, you know exactly who stands behind it.
